James Gunn Superman Movie New Plot Leak Sucks

There's no denying that DC has struggled at the box office in recent years. That struggle is a big reason they decided to reboot the entire franchise, bringing in James Gunn and giving him creative control. However, despite the leadership change, the studio has been unable to find solid footing. Of the last ten DC films released, nine have been financial disappointments, some even losing hundreds of millions—**including major titles like *The Flash* and *Joker: Folie à Deux.** The sole exception? *The Batman*, which turned a profit. Yet ironically, *The Batman Part II* is reportedly mired in production issues as well.

That brings us to *Superman*, DC’s next major theatrical release, which *has* to succeed. It's being positioned as the true beginning of the revamped DC Universe, and all eyes are on Gunn to deliver. But many fans remain skeptical. There have been persistent rumors of internal dissatisfaction, extensive reshoots, and creative decisions that have left people concerned.

The latest leak about the upcoming *Superman* film might be the most bizarre yet. It claims the movie centers around Superman being demoralized by online cancel culture and social media backlash—specifically through a trending hashtag, "#supershit", that damages his reputation. According to the leak, Lex Luthor orchestrates the smear campaign using an army of mutant monkeys at keyboards to flood the internet with hate.

It’s strange, but perhaps not entirely out of character for James Gunn, who is known for inserting personal themes and quirks into his work. Reports say Krypto the Superdog has been redesigned to resemble Gunn’s own pet, further suggesting the director’s personal imprint on this project. If the leak is to be believed, Gunn may even be channeling his own experiences with internet backlash and past controversies into the storyline.

Naturally, this has sparked debate. Gunn has successfully handled lesser-known characters—*Guardians of the Galaxy* being the best example—and to some extent, *The Suicide Squad*. But *Superman* is different. He’s one of the most iconic superheroes in the world, and a symbol of hope and strength—not a stand-in for online drama.

Is Gunn using Superman as a vessel to process his own grievances with internet culture and cancel campaigns? If so, that choice may not resonate with fans expecting a classic, inspirational Man of Steel.

There’s precedent for outlandish leaks turning out to be true—*Rise of Skywalker* and *Game of Thrones* Season 8 plot leaks both seemed unbelievable at first, yet ended up being accurate. So it’s understandable that some fans are genuinely worried.

Since *Joker* made a billion dollars, DC has struggled to replicate that success. From *Birds of Prey* and *Wonder Woman 1984* to *Black Adam* and *Aquaman 2*, most releases have disappointed financially. The Penguin series may be the only universally praised follow-up so far.

Now, with *Superman*, the stakes are incredibly high. But if the direction really is “Superman gets sad because of Twitter trolls,” orchestrated by a keyboard-wielding monkey army, then many fans may be left asking: is *this* really what it's come to?
